Planning the Quince!

Yes, your Quinceañera is all about friends, family, and spirituality. But it's also about planning the biggest birthday party you’ve ever had. Get started right here.
Planning With A Pro
Guidance is essential. Party planners are nice if you can afford them, but they aren’t necessary if you are determined. The one big plus of a party planner is their connections. Often, a party planner can negotiate prices down with venders they know. If you decide to plan it yourself like most people do, a Web site like planmyquince.com is a great bet. It will inform you of what you’re supposed to do and when so you can get things done on time and with style.
Striking A Balance
You want to throw a big celebration. Your parents also want to throw a big celebration. If all of you come to the table agreeing on what that means, then you are very lucky. If not, the first thing you have to do is find a solution that is acceptable to all. Whether it’s the theme or the budget that’s the crux of the problem, now’s the time to open the communication between you and the folks. What’s important to you? Remember, you’re growing up, and now’s the time when you have to learn how to negotiate. Sometimes, to get what you really want means you have to let go of the things you only sort of wanted.
Forming the Guest List
Of course, you want to invite all of your friends, relatives, and then some. First, decide on everyone you could possibly want to invite—then start trimming. You want to get it to a size that fits your budget—and your venue. You don't want to run out of food, chairs, or space! If you really want to add a couple more guests when it's getting down to the wire, don't sweat it too much. Ten more people won’t make much of a difference when it’s all over. And you might be really happy you invited them.
Find a Photographer
What are you going to have when all the food is eaten, the music’s over, and everyone’s gone home? Your memories. And that’s why your photographer is so important. If possible, start looking at least a year in advance. Interview as many photographers as you can. Ask them if they are familiar with Quinceañeras, and if they’ve ever photographed at your venue. Once you've got a list of candidates, check out their websites to preview their work. See photos you like? Make a time when you and your parents can meet with the photographer in person. Don't forget—personality counts! If you don’t think your photographer’s very cool, it’ll show in your photos.
Hey, Mr. DJ
You are going to be WAY to busy too entertain your entire gathering all by yourself! So music is also another big factor in any successful party. Think about the weddings and Quinceañeras you’ve been to, and the DJs you’ve seen. Do you think a DJ should do a lot of talking, or do you want him or her to just concentrate on the music? List the traits you think a good DJ should have. Ask around for referrals. People love to share good experiences. When you talk to DJs, be sure to ask if they’ve done Quinceañeras before. Ask what kind of music they have, and tell them what you like. If you want him or her to MC you celebration (With lots of introductions, talking, and commentary) be sure to let them know so they are comfortable with that. Congratulations!
